Okay, real talk. You spend so much time making sure everyone else is seen. You’re photographing your kids, showing up for your family, taking care of your clients, building this whole career. But when someone lands on your website or scrolls your Instagram? There’s barely any actual evidence of you in there.
And that matters more than you’d think. People want to know who they’re trusting. They want to feel the person behind the service, not just read a list of offerings.
Here’s what I want you to hear though: getting visible in your 40s isn’t about performing some younger, shinier version of success. It’s about letting your actual experience and personality be part of the brand you’ve already built.

Your experience IS your brand
A business is never just the product or service. It also reflects the judgement, care, and experience behind it, and that comes from you.
You’ve got years of knowledge in there. You know how to read a room, solve a problem, lead with empathy under pressure. That stuff shapes everything your clients experience with you. But nobody can feel it if you’re invisible.
A good portrait gives all of that a face:
- A warm expression makes someone feel welcome before they even talk to you.
- A direct gaze says “I know what I’m doing.”
- A photo of you mid-work makes your expertise real instead of theoretical.
It lets someone picture what working with you would actually feel like.
That’s the kind of image I’d build a whole session around, as a Burnaby brand photographer.
Visibility isn’t vanity, I promise
I know putting yourself out there can feel uncomfortable, even a little self-indulgent. But honestly? It’s just a practical business tool.
It helps people recognize you, remember you, and understand why you’re the one to choose.
You don’t need every post to be about you. A portrait, a behind-the-scenes shot, a quick video explaining your process, that’s UGC or short video content for local businesses.
You can post a story about how you got here, that’s enough to let people connect the work to the person doing it.

Build a real library of images
One headshot isn’t going to cut it. You want images that show you working, teaching what you know, welcoming a client in, being yourself, moving through the space where your business actually happens.
Mix up the outfits, the expressions, how dressed up or casual you are, gives you way more to work with. Short video clips stretch even further, across Instagram, your website, your emails.
Think of it as building a whole visual library of the different sides of you and your business.
Just start
There will always be one more reason to wait.
But visibility doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be intentional.
Start with one current photo. Refresh your website. Share a short, honest intro. Let people actually see the woman whose experience makes this whole thing work.
Your age was never the obstacle here. Your experience is the whole point.
If you’re a woman in business around Burnaby, Vancouver, or anywhere in the Lower Mainland, let’s create photos and content that actually show your expertise, your warmth, your confidence, all of it.
