Fast forward forty or fifty years.
Picture that same man at 70, or 80, sitting with a photo album or scrolling through old pictures with his grandkids.
He’s not going to wish there were fewer photos of him. He’s going to be glad, genuinely glad, that someone made him sit still for a portrait, just once, back when his kids were small and his hands still felt the weight of them on his shoulders.
That’s the strange thing about being photographed: nobody enjoys it in the moment, and almost everyone treasures it later.
The Moments That Don’t Come Back
Right now, your little one might be five years old, riding on Dad’s shoulders, certain that s/he’s the tallest person in the world.
In a few years, that same kid might be as tall as Dad. The shoulder rides will be a memory, one that, without a photo, will start to blur in time.
This is the thing about childhood: it moves fast, and it doesn’t wait for anyone to grab a “good” camera.
Yes, the phone photos are real, and they matter. But there’s a difference between a quick snapshot and a portrait that’s meant to last. That gets printed, framed, and looked at again and again, when everyone is older.

Why a Portrait Is Different
A professional portrait is a proof. Proof that you were there, that you loved, and that you were loved back.
It’s the kind of photo that doesn’t get lost in a camera roll of ten thousand images. It’s the one on the wall, the one your kids will show their kids someday.
And here’s something most people don’t expect: Dad doesn’t have to love being photographed for this to work.
Most of the dads, I photograph, arrive a little unsure and leave surprised. The goal was never to make him pose. The goal was to let him just be himself and have a good time with the people he loves. That’s it.
